St. Augustine is the oldest city in the country (over 450 years old!). It comes with some incredible Spanish architecture, historical buildings and landmarks like the Castillo de San Marco, not to mention peaceful, sandy beaches! But over the past few decades, the food scene in St. Augustine has grown into something that caters to just about every palette. If you’re interested in buying a home in St. Augustine and you’re a foodie, you’re in for a treat with some of the newer restaurants gracing its shores.
Sainte-George Restaurant is one of the more sophisticated restaurants to come on in the scene in recent years. A blend of American and European cuisines, the hand-crafted dishes look and taste like art! One reason for that is every meal is cooked or baked from scratch (including the bread and sauces!). Whether it’s break, lunch, or dinner, you’ll get fancy avocado toast, a lobster corn dog, or short ribs served with an incredible view of the Castillo de San Marcos. And don’t forget, your meal can be paired with a special wine selection! If you are looking to buy a home in St. Augustine, you might want to take a break from home-shopping midday and enjoy a forbidden black rice poke bowl!
The Uptown Swinery is a modern, farm to take southern restaurant in St. Augustine. With a southern twist on old favorites like eggs benedict over smoked pulled pork and fried chicken and johnnycakes (cornbread pancakes), you’ll quickly fall in love with their brunch menu. Their dinner menu also includes their own take on a few favorites like a BLTPC, which is bacon (pork belly), lettuce, tomato, and pimento cheese with a garlic aioli. Everything is prepared fresh, in house, and they only use locally sourced ingredients.
Perhaps the most exciting upcoming restaurant to St. Augustine residents (a little secret we’d like to share with our friends who are thinking about buying homes for sale in St. Augustine) is the long-awaited return of the new Outback Crab Shack. Nathan Stuart, local restaurant owner, has branched out once again, but this time to bring back one of our beloved restaurants blown away over the course of two hurricanes. Set to be re-built on County Road 13, the permits have been pulled and we can expect to have a grand opening in 2022. If you’re not local, you will absolutely love the rustic feel of a restaurant situated half inside, half outside, covered in tables of low crab boil plates!
