You don’t often hear about agents from the same brokerage helping each other if they’re not a team. Typically agents like to keep their tools and their clients close to the chest. At Round Table Realty, it’s different.
Kim Harshaw, an incredible RTR agent who joined us at the beginning of 2018, hit the ground running. A Washington D.C. transplant, she had nothing to work with but time and leads, and she quickly proved she was willing to do what it took to build up a solid client base here in Jacksonville and the beaches.
Leslie Dow is an RTR agent and Broker-Associate here at The Table with a knack for technology and an incredible dedication to helping others. So when Kim took a holiday trip back to D.C., she called Leslie.
“I got a call from an out-of-town buyer who wanted to see some new construction over the holiday. I panicked! He was in Jacksonville and I was visiting D.C.! I immediately reached out to Leslie to see if she could help him out in my absence,” Kim explained.
“I didn’t mind at all!” Leslie beamed. “As we drove from property to property we got to talking. He told me that he’d reached out to three agents. He was interviewing them to find one he wanted to work with long term. One agent was nice enough and showed him a few homes in a neighborhood but she didn’t have any follow-through. Another agent, who was listing a home he wanted to see, didn’t show any interest in helping him to see it over a holiday weekend. The listing agent actually said he had no other solution than to wait for the holiday to be over. I can honestly say I wasn’t surprised. Then the third agent, of course, was Kim.”
When he called Kim not only did she answer, but she found a solution quickly and efficiently so that his time wasn’t wasted while she was out of town. Leslie offered to take him to several different homes, but he declined one in particular - the one listed by the agent who showed no interest in helping him earlier. “I was offended,” he said. “I didn’t want to make him look good in front of his sellers, and honestly, I feel bad for the sellers that they have an agent who isn’t helping them!”
Leslie told Kim’s buyer about single agency, and why some agents work to complete a transaction and not to the satisfaction of their clients. She explained how the listing agent didn’t owe him loyalty, confidentiality, or effort because he was a transaction agent, not a single agent. Of course, she also told him why Round Table agents are different. “We go out of our way to help people, even if they don’t end up purchasing or selling a property.” Kim’s buyer thought it sounded too good to be true, but Leslie went on to explain that the week prior, Kim helped one of Leslie’s clients see a home while she was out of town. “We really do help each other to serve our clients.”
People often think our brokerage sounds too good to be true: nobody would leave family over a holiday to help a buyer who isn’t even theirs! But at Round Table, we rely on the support of our fellow agents to uphold the mantra of People Before Property, even if it’s someone else’s “people!”
If you are thinking about buying or selling a property and you do not yet have an agent, give Round Table Realty a call and learn for yourself what a difference it is working with professionals who actually care about you.
